Portland State University’s Guitar Series is thrilled to announce its 2019-2020 season, featuring guest artists Raphaël Feuillâtre, the Assad Brothers, Antonio Rey, and Stephanie Jones. Concerts take place throughout the season at Portland State University’s Lincoln Hall and The Old Church, with masterclasses also held at PSU.
This season’s lineup features a diverse array of artists and styles, from classical to flamenco and beyond. “We’ve put together an international lineup, bringing to our community artists of the highest caliber. Their playing unites traditional approaches with those pushing boundaries through the inclusion of some of the world’s most renowned artists and a new generation who are redefining the instrument in the 21st century,” says Artistic Director Mario Diaz.
The Guitar Series returned in 2018-2019 after a 23-year hiatus, with a season including performances from Tengyue Zhang, winner of the Guitar Foundation of American (GFA) International Concert Artist Competition; nationally renowned artists and pedagogues Michael Partington, Scott Kritzer, Jesse McCann, Connie Sheu, and William Kanengiser.
Each concert takes place on a Saturday evening, to be followed by a Sunday morning masterclass at PSU in which the guest artist coaches select up and coming students. These masterclasses are provided as a service to the community in partnership with the PSU Guitar Program, led by Jesse McCann. They are free and open to the public.
